Traditional Lux Powder Room

My client built this home about 20 years ago, so it was time to refresh. She loves Chinese furniture and anything that is either gold or sparkles. Her only must-have was to keep the current travertine floor, which we incorporated into the new design.

I ask my clients to be open and to share who they are and how they want to feel when they enter a room. My client wanted the design experience to be fun, so I took her shopping at the Pacific Design Center. Keeping her from being overwhelmed by all the exquisite choices, I only took her showrooms I knew she would connect with. It was love at first sight when we entered the Thomas Lavin showroom; we knew we had to have this beautiful hand-painted embroidered silk mural from Fromental.

I did not want a typical stained wood vanity, so I had this cabinet custom-made and brought in my faux finisher to do his magic. He and I walked around her home and took inspiration from her existing chinoiserie pieces. My client asked if I could incorporate a gold ceiling, but I feared it would detract from the hand-painted wallpaper. We decided to install a soft gold paper with just a hint of sparkle.
