Handy Design Hacks To Perk Up Your Bathroom

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

Is your bathroom boring?

Oh, you haven’t noticed? Well, it might be best to take a closer look.

While admittedly it might be one of the last rooms you’ll notice in your home, it’s also one of the most-used ones. And if you think about it, it’s actually one of the places where other people in your house leave you alone and give you some much-needed peace and quiet.

And if you have a bathtub, that transforms your bathroom into a place of sanctuary and rejuvenation.

So why not view your bathroom as more than just simply a functional space? And hey, check out Pinterest! You’re not going to see any boring bathrooms there, trust us.

Take a look at these before and after shots:

So while your bathroom might be boring NOW, it doesn’t have to stay that way. And while a complete bathroom remodel may be expensive, it doesn’t have to be! Read on for some handy design hacks (in no particular order) that you can do for your bathroom to make it look brand new - and make it look like it was touched by one of the best interior design companies in Los Angeles California.

Warning: when you’re done, you might never want to leave the bathroom!

Ready to risk it? Then let’s get started!

Change the flooring.

Are your bathroom floors looking old and ugly, or just plain utilitarian and therefore boring? Try disguising your floors with any of the following:

  • Floor cloths - buy a pattern you like then have it cut to fit your bathroom floor

  • Stencils - Use a stencil and some paint to create a whole new look

  • Paint - Go as simple as a wash of color or as ornate as your creativity will allow

Add some plants to your bathroom.

If you want something a bit more natural to spruce up the bathroom, why not add plants as bathroom decor? They’ll add plenty of pops of color and of course, will just make your bathroom feel fresher.

It’s best to get some plants that thrive in humidity and warmth, as well as ones that are low-maintenance.

Put scented candles.

If you’re going to make your bathroom a place of relaxation, there’s nothing like adding some scented candles! Get your candles with your favorite scent and light them up. These will set a nice mood.

This is especially applicable if you have guests coming over - you might find them making excuses to keep visiting the bathroom.

Give the bathroom interior a fresh coat of paint.

One thing that can make a bathroom look old and unappealing is fading or faded paint. Why not refresh the paint? And while you’re painting, why not choose a color that you actually like this time, instead of the usual boring white?

Refresh your grout.

If you have tiles in your bathroom, there’s what’s called grout in between those tiles. Because of frequent use, the grout tends to get dirty and even break up over time. That can lead to your bathroom looking very tired.

Luckily, grout is an easy fix. If your grout is white, for example, just buy grout whitener. The same goes if you use black grout.

You can also just buy a grout cleaning brush and get to, well, to cleaning! That goes a long way in making a bathroom feel new.

Put your toiletries on a tray.

Instead of leaving your deodorant, shampoo, lotion, and so on scattered all over the bathroom, keep things neat! Put everything on a tray or a box. It can be those metal trays with handles or a wooden open box.

Choose whichever will fit your personal taste best - and of course, one that fits in and on your bathroom.

Add a small cabinet or two.

And speaking of keeping things organized, why not add some cabinets? You can also put toiletries there, towels, toothbrushes, and whatever else you usually use in your bathroom. Again, get cabinets that you like and look really good!

Transfer products to amber or clear bottles.

Have favorite soaps or shampoos but don’t necessarily like their packaging? They could be too loud, too colorful, and just generally don’t fit your aesthetic.

Well, there’s an easy solution: just transfer the contents! Buy bottles that look nice and clean and use those as your containers for your favorite products. Not only do they look cleaner but also more expensive, which is always a nice aesthetic, wouldn’t you agree?

Upgrade your towels.

If you’re using old and ratty towels in a new bathroom, what do you think will stand out? The ratty towels, of course! They’ll stick out like a sore thumb and pretty much affect whatever

improvement you’ve made in your bathroom. So make sure to buy new towel to go along with your new designs!

Update your mirror.

Sure, you might be able to still see your reflection in your current bathroom, but is the reflection the only thing you see? Or do you also see dirt, cracks, and dings when you look closer?

Better change your mirror then! Get a frameless one or something that is already framed with metal or wood. Again, pick whichever you think will spruce up your bathroom the best.

Change the lighting.

Good lighting can definitely help perk up your bathroom. Change the lights to daylight-balanced bulbs and check out how bright and big it feels. Also, if you feel like you’re not getting good light, then add lights to your mirrors.

Add pictures or paintings to walls.

You don’t want boring bathrooms, right? Then add some art to the walls, preferably those in nice frames. Instant upgrade!

Notice the small details.

One more thing you need to notice are the little things in the bathroom. These include faucets, knobs, flushes, shower rods, and so on. What about them, you ask?

Well, if they’re metal, are they already rusty or breaking down? Or is the color fading?

In other words, if they need replacing or repainting, do it!
